Prensky Chapter 1 and 2 Assignment

"Don't Bother Me Mom-I'm Learning!" by Marc Prensky has been quite an interesting book. But there are A several things that I believe are just crazy,confusing and interesting. Something that I encounter while reading these two chapters that I found crazy was how Marc Prensky discusses about how doctors who played video games before performing surgery did 40% better. So now at New York City's Beth Israel Hospital before doing surgeries doctors must warm up playing video games for half an hour. I don't understand how that works but apprently it does. The control's of Laparoscopic instruments resemble a videogame controller and the entire surgery is seen only on a computer monitor. Another bit of information that i stumbled upon while reading that I thought interesting was how business entrepreneurs that were in their 20's have found that playing video games has helped them greatly. Prensky then quotes "I remember my mom and day yelling at me (for playing too much)-they didnt know i had a 200-person (online) guild to manage." More on that, Prensky goes on to explain how game players get good at taking in information from many sources which I can see as being true because I can relate to from playing world of warcraft and managing things like guilds, partners for certain events and etc. Although most of the content made sense in one part of chapter 2 supposly a preschooler is familar with housing and what net worth is. This Confused me because even im not sure what net worth is and this pre schooler has learn this just from playing sims? I'll believe when i see it .

Hello Dr. Smith

My name is Melvin Jimenez and I’m a freshman at LaGuardia. My major currently is liberal arts but soon to be business. I’m 19 years old and was born in New York and my parents are from Dominican Republic.
Although this is a writing class I do not look forward to massive amounts of essays that might keep me way too preoccupied while I’m home. I like to use a lot of my free time to play sports like handball and basketball and also I am highly addicted to sitting in front of a computer screen everyday while spending massive amounts of hours gaming.
If you cannot already tell I have horrible hand writing and make a lot of mistakes. Another thing is that I tend to do my writing fast with out thinking and get stuck for a minute then when I’m ready to rewrite or continue I make no sense what so ever. Also I don’t do much reading other then chatting for example text massaging. Another thing about me is I play guitar. I’m not very good at it but I try. Also I’m into cars and one day I want to drive a Ford Mustang.
I don’t really like school much either. The only reason I come to school is so I can meet new people although now that I’m in college I’m sure that’s going to have to change in order to achieve success for my future.
My first impressions of you were that I though you were cool unlike other teachers that I’ve had and that this might actually be an interesting course. I also tend to day dream in my thoughts but I tried really hard to pay attention today and you are quite entertaining unlike high school teachers that I had before which mad it pretty easy to stay focus.
In conclusion, I'm determined to pass this class and excuse this essay’s weird flow of topics.
